    Pool Bar

    Captain’s Log – Sun 5/4/25

There was a swim up pool bar in the Coral section calling our name this afternoon. It was a bit cloudy from all of the storms around FL and the Bahamas which made it a little bit chilly. Hanging out at the pool bar or by the pool rather than in the pool was the ticket today. Maybe this pool is cooler because it’s deeper than the others we’ve been to. 🤷🏼‍♂️

The storms by the way, are the reason we’re still here. We originally planned to start heading back towards Florida today. Did not look fun.

From the pool, we could see the swinging rope bridge that we walked across the first day.

Here’s a cool video of the rays feeding in the lagoon on the other side of the Coral Pool section.

We went to dinner at Bimini Roads, a cute looking Bahamian style restaurant in the Marina Village that had live music. It looked fun, but I was pretty disappointed with my Mahi. Do not recommend.

We opted to skip dessert in favor of dessert drinks at the Dilly Club, which quickly became our favorite bar during our stay here. That is a mud slide on the left and “Another Galaxy” on the right. The latter is an espresso martini made with rum instead of vodka.

We got a super late email from the weather service saying that we could go ahead and leave tomorrow after all instead of waiting until Tuesday as they previously recommended. If I had known earlier I would’ve had the boat ready and taken it easy. As it was, I didn’t feel like getting up super early and risk crossing the Tongue of the Ocean tired and hungover. So regardless, Tuesday is still the plan.

    Captain’s Log – Sat 5/3/25

After catching up on some sleep we were ready to hit the water park today. We floated around the lazy and rapid rivers, tried the various slides including the leap of faith from the Mayan Pyramid and hung out at the grotto pool for the afternoon.

Dinner tonight was Italian Restaurant Paranza, on the far West side of the resort. We opted to take the shuttle overboard instead of walking. Much to our surprise, there is a tunnel under the entrance to the marina no more than 30 yards from Hula Girl! It’s so well concealed you would never know it if you weren’t looking for it.

The Cove is an upscale modern, chic, zen hotel on the western most side. You feel stress melt away as you see the tropical gardens and koi pond. Honestly it probably wasn’t my favorite here but it was nice and the food was good.

The shuttle took us back to the marina where we had the “Brookie” dessert at Seafire that we didn’t have room for the other night there.

I really wanted to go to the night club, Aura, but dang I’m getting old. It looked super cool, like one of the hot South Beach night clubs. A couple of years ago I would have danced the night away. Somehow this trip has me on a solar time schedule. I get up at first light and am ready for bed as soon as it’s dark. After playing all day at the water park and dinner, I was ready to chill. Wish I could have retired at 30 something. My mind says Hell yeah, my body say hell no.

    Captain’s Log – Fri 5/2/25

Super slow start this morning after a couple late nights and a 6:30am Webex conference with our meteorology service. Sadly it’s time to plan our return to Florida. There are thunderstorms predicted for Sunday and Monday in South Florida extending to the Northern Bahamas so the meteorologist recommended we stay a couple extra days in Nassau, delaying our departure until Tuesday morning. We are stuck on Paradise Island for two extra days, just terrible huh?

I did the route planning after breakfast. Plan is to sail to Chub Cay Tuesday. Then Wednesday anchor on the bank at Mackie Shoals if it’s calm enough. Move on to Riding Rocks far enough south of Bimini Thursday to allow us to get a northern push from the Gulf Stream to Angel Fish Creek in the Keys on Friday. If we’re making great time on Wednesday or it’s too rough to anchor at Mackie Shoals, we’ll continue on to Riding Rocks on Wednesday then cross to the keys on Thursday. Loaded everything to the chart plotter, we have a plan.

I put 4.5 gallons of diesel in the tank to top it off. The dockhand volunteered to go get it refilled for me, saving me the trouble. There’s no fuel on Paradise Island, it’s all on the mainland. That earned him a good tip. Filled our water tanks and washed the boat down.

We spent the afternoon at the harbor side pool, enjoying a quiet relaxing afternoon.

Tonight we had an early dinner at Nobu, a somewhat notable Japanese fusion restaurant. The only reservation we could get was at 5:30. It was quite an experience, probably the best sushi I’ve ever had. We were there a couple hours eating various dishes. I tried the Nobu Black Label saki and the Nobu Cabernet, both very nice wines.

We opted for dessert drinks at our new favorite craft cocktail bar the Dilly Club again.

The main event tonight was Junkanoo, a flamboyant carnival style parade through Marina Village. We joined in at the tail end and followed.
